I am the founder and CEO of Mindroot Ltd. I practice psychotherapy, sport psychology and work supervision. I am specialized particularly in EMDR-therapy. Many of my customers have had difficult experiences and trauma. Violence, death of a loved one, divorce, safety threats, publicity challenges, difficult interpersonal relationships, sports failures, and workplace conflict situations are topics that are addressed at my reception. I collaborate with the police, prosecutors, insurance companies, occupational health service providers, the Journalist Support Fund, NGOs, sports coaches, HUS and several law firms in Helsinki and Turku. I am in the Kela’s rehabilitation service provider registry and conduct outsourced therapy for HUS and YTHS.

I have had a private practice since 2010. Prior to that, I worked as a psychologist in the National Bureau of Investigation for 10 years (during 2002-2008 as a Researcher for the Academy of Finland) and in 2010–2020, in addition to my clinical work, I was the head of a psychologist and law firm. In addition to my reception work, I maintain an EMDR-blog and write academic papers, and I also conduct research on EMDR method and its effectiveness at the Helsinki University Medical faculty, and I actively develop new methods related to EMDR therapy, especially for mental coaching in sports and arts, supervision and police criminal investigation. I have written or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles and four books. I also serve as the science representative of the board of the Finnish EMDR Association.

I work fluently in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Markus Heinimaa (Associate)

MD, PhD, Psychiatrist, Family therapy trainer, EMDR facilitator and trainer.

I am a psychiatrist and work mainly with adults and adolescents, and with couples and families.

The focus of the treatment can vary widely, but largely I work with trauma focus, applying EMDR-therapy to treating attachment traumas as well as to so called type A psychotraumatisation (life occurrences that would traumatize most people).

I have worked in private practice since 1993 and simultaneously been actively involved in psychiatric scientific research (particularly on early detection of psychosis) and teaching. I hold a clinical lecturer position at the University of Turku.

I have authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers. In my clinical work I have been particularly active in developing EMDR therapy for various purposes. My training level in EMDR-therapy is a facilitator. I supervise EMDR therapists in Turku, Seinäjoki and Tampere. I have also been involved as an EMDR-therapist in post-trauma workshops for police officers. I have served as the chairman of the Finnish EMDR association since 2014.
